About

A reading guide, with a second door.

Netherlands Stay Guide is an orientation to five places: The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Maastricht. It describes the kind of base a visitor might choose and the practical differences between those places. It is not a hotel company, not a booking site, and not a review platform.

Purpose

The stay guide answers a planning question: where should a bag go down for a few nights, and what is that choice actually like. A room on an Amsterdam canal is not a room in De Pijp. Sleeping in The Hague is not the same decision as sleeping in Scheveningen. Rotterdam north of the river is not Kop van Zuid. Maastricht is a different day from the Randstad, and the train ride shows it.

The pages are written so a person can choose a pattern of stay before they open a booking site. Distances, the single time zone, language, and which landmark is actually in the centre are the useful facts. Room rates, star scores, and “only two left” messages are not here, because this project was not given live hotel inventory and it does not invent any.

A second section, the casino comparison, sits beside the guide and is labelled as separate. It reuses an existing Dutch toplist and stays in Dutch. It is advertising. It is not a chapter of the travel writing, and opening it does not say that gambling is legal for the person reading.

Why these five places

The set is a common first trip rather than a complete map of the Netherlands. Two cities in South Holland, the capital in North Holland, the rail city in the middle, and one southern city that is not flat. Delft, Haarlem, Leiden, Groningen, and the islands are real journeys. They are outside this edition.

There is one time zone. Toronto-style clock differences do not apply. Europe/Amsterdam covers every place in this guide, including daylight saving.

How to read a sample stay

Each place has two cards marked Sample. A card names a pattern, such as a canal-ring base or a south-bank base. It does not name a hotel, a brand, a price, a vacancy, or a guest score. The sentence under every card says the same thing on purpose: nothing on that card is a listing.

If a sentence conflicts with a current NS timetable, an IND entry rule, or a notice on a city site, the official page wins.

Photographs

The pictures show the places, not hotels you can book from these pages. Amsterdam, including the large picture at the top, is Keizersgracht at Reguliersgracht in the evening, by Massimo Catarinella. Rotterdam is the skyline from the Maassilo roof, by Rob Oo, and does not pretend to be the whole port. The Hague is Het Plein, by Zairon, with towers behind the trees and no beach in the frame. Utrecht is the Dom tower in the haze, by Sebastiaan ter Burg. Maastricht is the Meuse in winter, by Bert Kaufmann. Credits and licences are repeated in the footer. A reflection in a canal is not a photograph of a room.

Where the casino comparison comes from

The comparison was not written as new promotions for this guide. The order, the offer lines, the logo colours, the payment icons, and the outbound links come from the Dutch toplist served at /nl4/ on top10casinosinnederland.com, copied on 7 November 2026. The template in the source folder is page-ca.php, which is the layout the live page was using. Six operators were on that page. The buttons still go to the /safe/ addresses printed there. The button label on this copy is “Speel nu”.

Some of the sentences on that page are formulas or fixed text in the original template, not measurements stored beside each casino. Ratings step down from 10 by a tenth of a point each row. The vote counts are a fixed list. “Direct” is printed on every row. One offer line is in German because that is the text on the source page. Casoola and SpinPanda both use the same /safe/spinpanda/ address on that page, and this copy does not “correct” it. The Terms page lists these limits. Offers go stale. The operator’s own page is the offer that exists today.

How the first page is chosen

The address / looks at a country code the host already has, such as Cloudflare’s CF-IPCountry header. A code of NL opens the casino comparison. Any other country opens this stay guide. If the header is missing, or the host sends XX or T1, the location is treated as unknown and the stay guide opens. Visitors and crawlers use that same check. There is no separate page for reviewers or bots.

The list of country codes lives in config.php. The banners and this page read that list. Changing the list changes the first page for everyone, including crawlers.

That choice is a starting page, nothing more. You can open the other section from the navigation. The code is not stored as a profile. It is not a check of age, or of whether an operator will accept you. Online gambling in the Netherlands is regulated by the Kansspelautoriteit. A comparison page is not a licence.
